GEORGE MILLER JR. FOUNDER OF GANGSTER SOUL HARMONY

George Miller Jr.  Founder of Gangster Soul Harmony

George Miller Jr. is a Los Angeles based rare soul record collector, curator, producer and founder of Gangster Soul Harmony, an independent rare soul compilation and archival series established in 2005.

His work is rooted in decades of collecting, researching and preserving obscure soul recordings, independent 45 RPM releases and rare oldies that often existed far outside the mainstream music industry.

Through Gangster Soul Harmony and earlier compilation projects, George has built a catalog centered on hard-to-find soul, sweet soul, harmony soul, rare oldies and independently released recordings from the 1960s and 1970s.

Early Record Collecting and Rare Oldies

George Miller Jr. began seriously collecting rare soul and oldies records in the early 1990s.

His interest developed around original 45 RPM records, vocal group harmony, independent soul labels and overlooked recordings that were often difficult to locate and poorly documented.

Rather than collecting only well-known records, George focused on discovering releases that had been forgotten, locally distributed, privately pressed or known primarily among dedicated collectors.

That approach would later become the foundation of his work as a curator and compilation producer.

Lost and Found Rare Oldies

In 1996, George created Lost and Found Rare Oldies, an early compilation project built around rediscovering and presenting rare and difficult-to-find soul recordings.

The project reflected the same philosophy that would later define Gangster Soul Harmony: uncover overlooked music, preserve the recordings and introduce them to listeners who may never have had access to the original releases.

Lost and Found Rare Oldies became an important part of George Miller Jr.’s development as a collector, curator and independent producer.

Gangster Soul Harmony

In 2005, George founded Gangster Soul Harmony.

The series was created as a collector driven rare soul compilation project centered on records, artists and labels that George had spent years researching and collecting.

Gangster Soul Harmony was built around discovery rather than familiarity.

Its catalog highlights obscure vocal groups, independent artists, small regional record labels and rare recordings that often survived through the efforts of collectors, DJs and dedicated soul-music communities.

Over time, Gangster Soul Harmony developed into more than a compilation series.

It became a platform for preserving and documenting the music and history surrounding rare soul recordings.

Curator, Collector and Producer

George Miller Jr.’s work combines several roles.

As a collector, he has spent decades locating and studying original rare soul records.

As a curator, he selects and organizes recordings within a larger musical and historical context.

As a producer, he has helped bring rare and overlooked music back into circulation through physical vinyl releases and archival projects.

His approach is based on the belief that a record has value beyond its price or rarity.

Each recording is connected to an artist, a label, a place, a period of time and a story.

Preserving those connections is central to the Gangster Soul Harmony mission.

Rare Soul and Southern California Culture

George Miller Jr.’s work is closely connected to the rare soul and oldies culture of Southern California.

The music associated with Gangster Soul Harmony includes recordings that have circulated through record shops, swap meets, private collections, DJ sets, oldies gatherings and lowrider culture.

Within these communities, rare soul records have often continued to live long after their original commercial release.

Collectors and listeners have played a major role in preserving this music, keeping songs in circulation and passing them between generations.

Gangster Soul Harmony exists within that tradition of preservation and discovery.

Building the Gangster Soul Harmony Archive

In addition to releasing physical vinyl, George is developing the Gangster Soul Harmony Archive as a long-term digital resource.

The archive is intended to document Gangster Soul Harmony releases along with the artists, songs, original record labels and historical information connected to the recordings.

The goal is to create a growing reference source for collectors, researchers, music historians and listeners interested in rare soul music.

Where reliable historical information is available, the archive will help preserve details that might otherwise remain scattered, forgotten or unavailable online.

Continuing the Work

More than three decades after George Miller Jr. began collecting rare soul records, his work continues to center on the same basic mission:

discover the music, preserve the history and keep rare soul records alive for future generations.

Through Gangster Soul Harmony, archival research, vinyl releases and related projects, George continues to connect the culture of record collecting with a new generation of listeners.

His work represents a collector led approach to music preservation: built from original records, firsthand experience, historical research and a long term commitment to rare soul music.
