GANGSTER SOUL HARMONY: HOW IT STARTED

GANGSTER SOUL HARMONY:
HOW IT ALL STARTED!

People often ask me where gangster soul harmony came from, and the truth is the story starts long before 2005.

My name is George Miller Jr., Born in East Los Angeles on October 11th 1975

My music journey began in 1993 when I started collecting 45rpm records.
At the time, I was heavily into doo-wop music and learned a lot from my father and his close friend Marcos, better known to many as “Puppy.” They introduced me to the culture of collecting, preserving music, learning the  original labels, distinguishing correct matrix numbers and appreciating the stories behind the groups and the records. What started as a hobby quickly became an obsession.

By 1996, I was already thinking beyond collecting. I wanted to share the music I was discovering by digging, taking chances on Group names and song titles and of course with other like minded collectors, and mentors (which were'nt many) which ultimately led me on my path to curate my first compilation series, The Lost and Found Rare Oldies Series.

Looking back now, it was the beginning of a lifelong mission to preserve and spotlight incredible  mostly unknown soul recordings that deserved a wider audience.

In 1997, I joined forces with Robert Ramos and Sal Rodriguez. Together, we built and created the Lost Soul Oldies Label and movement during an important period in Southern California’s early rare soul scene. I personally distributed CDs to record stores throughout California, from Bakersfield to San Diego and beyond. During that era, I also produced my own compilation series, Heart and Soul Rare Oldies, under the Lost Soul Oldies umbrella. 1998-2002 Those years taught me the importance of grassroots promotion, community building, staying connected, and our constant relentless pursuit of new amazing discoveries which helped us keep this music alive.

In 2003, I experimented with a one-off project called Gangsta of Soul. While short-lived, it became an important stepping stone. That  CD carried my GMJR Productions credit and introduced ideas and concepts that would eventually evolve into something much bigger. At the time, I didn’t realize it but i was laying the foundation for what would become Gangster Soul Harmony.

Then came 2005.

My brother Angel, my cousin Nick, and I pulled our financial resources together and officially legitamately launched Gangster Soul Harmony. What started as a passion project quickly became a movement. We weren’t following trends. We were preserving the rare oldies culture and re-enforcing  it as the new trend

Over the years, Gangster Soul Harmony has released numerous compilations, uncovered thousands of forgotten recordings, introduced listeners to artists they may have never been discovered otherwise, and helped keep rare soul music alive for new generations. Along the way, i've  built my own brand identity, organized events, participated in concerts, connected collectors from around the world, knowingly and unknowingly, i've adapted to every major shift in technology and music culture.

From the CD era to social media, from message boards to streaming platforms, and to vinyl format "Gangster Soul Harmony"  has remained present and active. We’ve never stopped evolving, learning, and pushing forward.

What makes this journey special is that it has always been driven by passion. Long before algorithms, influencers, and online marketplaces, there were collectors digging through record boxes, trading information, sharing discoveries, and building communities through this music. I was fortunate enough to be part of that world from the early beginnings of the rare soul boom

Today, Gangster Soul Harmony stands as one of the longest-running independent rare soul compilation series of its kind. The brand has been featured in books, magazines, interviews, art galleries, podcasts, radio programs, and documentaries. More importantly, it has earned the respect of collectors and music lovers who understand the importance of preserving this music and its history.

More than three decades after I bought my first records, the mission remains the same:

Discover great music. Preserve great music. Share great music.

The story is still being written...
